Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

The Magazine of Geodesy – Cartography is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and research integrity. The journal follows internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing and expects authors, reviewers, editors, and the editorial board to adhere to these principles.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts contain original work and that all sources are appropriately acknowledged. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their research data and results.

Manuscripts must not have been published previously and must not be under consideration for publication by another journal.

Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation.

2. Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, or interpretation of the research and who have participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript.

All listed authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission and publication.

Any change in authorship after submission must be justified and approved by all authors and the Editor-in-Chief.

3. Plagiarism and Duplicate Publication

The journal does not accept plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, or substantial overlap with previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment.

All submitted manuscripts may be checked using plagiarism-detection software or other appropriate methods.

If plagiarism or substantial duplication is identified, the journal may reject the manuscript or take corrective action after publication.

4. Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication of research data;
  • Falsification or manipulation of data or results;
  • Plagiarism;
  • Inappropriate image manipulation;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication;
  • Unethical research practices; and
  • Deliberate misrepresentation of research findings.

Allegations of misconduct will be investigated by the journal in accordance with appropriate ethical principles. The journal may request explanations, supporting documents, or clarification from authors or their institutions.

5. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or other relationships that could constitute a potential conflict of interest.

Editors and reviewers must not participate in the evaluation of manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest.

6. Reviewer Ethics and Confidentiality

Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, fairly, and confidentially.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage and must disclose any conflict of interest.

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited where appropriate and should inform the editor of any suspected plagiarism or ethical concerns.

7. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, and integrity of the manuscript and are not influenced by commercial, political, institutional, or personal interests.

Editors are responsible for making fair and transparent publication decisions.

8. Corrections and Retractions

The journal will correct the published record when errors that affect the accuracy or integrity of an article are identified.

Articles may be retracted when there is clear evidence of serious research misconduct, major errors, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other circumstances that substantially compromise the reliability of the published work.

Corrections and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original article whenever possible.

9. Ethical Oversight

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional requirements. Where research involves human participants, personal data, animals, or other ethically sensitive subjects, authors must obtain the appropriate ethical approval or authorization when required.

10. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions or submit complaints concerning the editorial or publication process.

Appeals and complaints will be considered fairly and confidentially by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriate designated editor who was not directly involved in the matter under appeal.
